For too long, local people have struggled to access healthcare close to home. I’ve worked with local partners to bring community health services back to Orrell at Edge Hall Road and I’ll keep fighting until local people get the services they deserve.
What I Think
Whenever I speak to people in Orrell, one issue comes up more than any other: access to healthcare.
It’s not fair that local residents have been left without the GP services they need. You’ve have had to travel further, wait longer and worry about the future of local healthcare provision. I understand that frustration.
Brilliant public services don’t mean much if they aren’t reaching communities like ours. That’s why I’ve worked alongside local campaigners, healthcare leaders and Wigan Warriors to help bring community health services back to Orrell at Edge Hall Road.
It’s an important step forward and one that local people have fought hard for, however this issue is about more than healthcare. It’s about whether communities like Orrell get their fair share of investment and public services. I believe they should. I will continue to fight with our community to get a health centre back in Orrell long term.
